If you are wanting to train and coach adults more effectively, here are four principles to keep in mind:
- Give people control over their learning experiences, to the extent possible.
- Make sure you provide a venue for people to share their experiences and wisdom.
- Find a way to address what’s most important for people to learn now.
- Change up the teaching and coaching style.
The principles above are inspired by the book, The Adult Learner by Malcolm Knowles.
If you have respect for the adult learner in your organization, you’ll be able to help them to make substantial leaps in their learning.
