From a listener:
I have always felt that doing more and thinking ahead can better any situation. How else would we have the things we have if someone didn’t pause and ask “what if” before moving forward. However, I often receive negative comments and criticism for my over zealous work and have begun really taking it to heart. Your podcast “135: Should You Take the Job Nobody Wants?” really hit home with me because I ended up being that person and now my department is the leading revenue provider for our district. I have often heard people say that I do too much, so…, long story short; is my over zealous attitude causing me to expect over zealous praise or should I simply be “doing my job” and nothing more?
Dale Carnegie said, “Expect ingratitude.”
Here’s what you can do:
- Surround yourself with excellent people.
- Spend time with people who are champions of you.
- Have a rich life outside of the workplace.
