I have a problem that I really need to get under control over the next few weeks because I have a presentation coming up. No matter how calm or confident I try to convince myself to be before talking in front of a group of people, I start shaking and tense up as soon as I open my mouth. This happens to me even if I’m sitting in a small group (5 or 10 people), and even if I don’t think I’m that nervous!
If you’re afraid of public speaking, follow these three steps:
- Recognize that it’s common (and perhaps even better) to be nervous.
- Your nervousness is probably not as apparent as it might seem.
- Start finding success in small places that push your comfort zone — and find people that will affirm your successes to build your confidence.
