Five ways to tame technology:

  1. Selectively disconnect. When concentration is needed, turn off the phone, close your email program, or move to a quieter place.
  2. Determine reasonable times to answer emails and stick to the schedule.
  3. Turn off as many notifications as practical.
  4. As much as possible, only deal with each message once.
  5. Put people before technology. If you are talking to someone, set down devices, turn off screens, or silence alerts.
